Sam Perlozzo becomes the first manager let go this season. I’m not sure why they didn’t wait until the end of the season to do this just in case he could be the guy to turn things around. The word around the club was that Sam couldn’t have been a nicer guy.
So what next? Blow up the lineup and start over? Not going to happen because of their contracts. With a team wide slump there’s no other direction than fire the manager. I wonder what will happen to his buddy Leo Mazzone who left the Atlanta Braves after 14 division titles to be with Perlozzo.
A full time replacement is being looked at with candidates including Joe Girardi. Bullpen coach Dave Trembley is taking over in the mean time.
